This is a self-guided trip: there’s no guide walking with you, but we handle the planning and required bookings — we send you the full itinerary, GPS tracks, and recommendations, and book your accommodation, meals, and any mandatory logistics in advance. You simply show up and pay locally, in cash, for what you use.

Overview
A seven-day, point-to-point self-guided trip across the Greater Caucasus in northern Azerbaijan: an arrival evening in Khinalig — one of the country’s highest and most remote inhabited villages — followed by five trekking days to the remote hilltop village of Gukhur, via Griz, Aniq, Laza, and Yergi Kek, and a final travel day to Baku or onward. Expect exposed ridgelines and canyon rims, high pastures, forest descents, and a close-up look at daily life in some of Azerbaijan’s most isolated mountain communities.
Most payments on the trail — for guesthouses, meals, and any local guide or transport you add — are made directly and in cash to the people providing them, since small businesses in this region still work this way. We’ve built the trip around them deliberately: it keeps more of what you spend with local families and communities along the trail, rather than routing it through big hotel chains, and it’s part of what makes this self-guided trek feel like a genuine, local experience rather than a packaged one.
