Visa & Entry

Citizens of the United States, the European Union, and many other countries can enter Armenia visa-free for stays of up to 180 days per calendar year — just bring a valid passport. Travelers from other countries can apply for an e-visa online. Requirements can change, so confirm with Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you travel.

Currency

The local currency is the Armenian Dram (AMD). Cards are widely accepted in Yerevan and larger towns, but bring cash for guesthouses, meals, and local transport along the trek — ATMs are scarce in rural areas.

Best Time to Trek

The main hiking season runs from mid-May to mid-October. Expect warm days and cool nights at elevation — temperatures can still drop to freezing overnight even in July and August — plus the occasional sudden mountain storm with lightning or hail. Check current trail conditions before setting out in the shoulder months.

Safety Basics

Pack layers for sudden weather changes, carry plenty of water, and let someone know your daily route and expected finish time. Trekking poles and sturdy boots are recommended for the descents around Dilijan and Lake Sevan.
